Kevin S. Long
1956 – 2012
Kevin S. Long, also known as “Dawg” to his many friends, lost his battle with cancer and died at his home Dec. 31, 2012, with his sister by his side.
Kevin was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., on March 25, 1956, the son of Marvin and Muriel Long. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls and attended college in Vermillion, S.D. Kevin then went on to serve four years in the Navy as an Electronic Technician, traveling the world.
He resided for a time in Huntington Beach, Calif., but found his true home in Fraser. Kevin was most recently employed as a chef at Tabernash Tavern, which he held close in his heart.
In his spare time, he enjoyed drawing, Denver Broncos, Frisbee golf, hunting, fishing, and cherished time with his large group of friends. Kevin had a passion for writing poetry, of which one piece was published in the book, “Great Poems of the Western World.” He was also working on some children’s literature before his passing.
Kevin will always be remembered as an easy-going, happy, loving soul with a HUGE heart … big, cuddly teddy bear!
Kevin is survived by his parents, Marvin and Muriel Long of Hemet, Calif.; two brothers, Fred Long of Santa Fe, N.M., and Brad Long of Chico, Calif.; one sister, Michele and her husband, Sjur Holm of Goffstown, N.H., along with two nieces and three nephews and his many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind a large extended family of loving friends who will miss him dearly.
Services will be private at the convenience of his family. There will also be a memorial service in Fraser given by his friends, date to be announced.
