Obituary – Opal Lucille Mayfield

Opal Lucille Mayfield, a long time summer resident of Grand Lake, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Feb. 27, 2010, at the age of 81. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She leaves behind her husband Ollie, her sister Connie (Dave), her brother Harley (Donna), her two sons Todd (Allison) and Scott (Patty); five grandchildren, Elliot, Hannah, Natalie (Bob), Daniel and Cole.

Opal was born in Palmyra, Neb., on Jan. 3, 1929. She was raised in Weeping Water, Neb. Opal graduated from Peru State Teacher’s College and soon after married her sweetheart, Ollie. Opal spent her summers in Grand Lake, with family and friends until her death. She loved the Colorado Rocky Mountains, flowers and hiking trails.

She was a member of Trinity Church of the Pines.

A celebration of Opal’s life will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010, at El Camino Baptist Church in Tucson, Ariz., at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
