Insulting, disdainful and shameful
Insulting, disdainful and shameful was Trump’s handling of his recent visit to France. He wouldn’t even honor the World War I U.S. soldiers who are buried near Belleau Wood.
It was here in June 1918 that nearly 2,000 Americans died in a great battle near the Marne River. He insulted the relatives of those who fought and died courageously.
It was disdainful that Trump thought his needs (not getting rained on) a higher priority than remembering the sacrifices of others.
It is shameful that this is how Trump represents us to the world. Apparently, his nationalism trumps patriotism.
France, and even Germany, gave great tribute to our fallen soldiers in this battle. Trump wouldn’t.
As Emmanuel Macron, president of France, said, “Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism by saying, ‘Our (My) interest first. Who cares about the others?’.” Winston Churchill’s grandson got it right, calling Trump’s action “pathetic.”
How much more of Trump’s immature and self-serving behavior are you willing to put up with?
