Cabin fever isn’t just the name of a lousy horror movie, though it can be horrifying.

Its legion manifestations stem from one essential element: Being stuck in one place too long; e.g., inside during the winter months (not to mention the spring months).

Now that daylight saving time and a few warmer days have arrived, cabin fever may have become excruciatingly acute for some of us. But few sensations can match what may be the ultimate case of cabin fever — senior year of high school.

Right now, graduation can seem as far away to some seniors as the other side of a hot driveway does to a snail. And college … well, might as well be the turn of the 22nd century.

Nonetheless, plenty of high school students these days are as adept as anyone at planning ahead. And we’d like to help one lucky Grand County student prepare for one small aspect of post-high school life.

We’re giving away a 32-inch flat screen TV — perfect for that dorm room or other college crib — to one of the lucky students who provides their information for our graduation tab online before March 27.

As in years past, we’re compiling a list of graduates, their pictures and some information about them for our annual special edition. But this year we’re asking students to help us get a head start by providing the information themselves online at http://www.skyhidailynews.com/2015graduation.

It’s simple. Either log in with your http://www.skyhidailynews user name and password or create an account and get started. And don’t forget to upload the student photo you want to accompany your graduation information in our special edition.

Graduation is closer than you think. We need this information by March 27, so please don’t wait. Register now and you could win the perfect TV to kick off your post-high school life. Go to http://www.skyhidailynews.com/2015graduation now.

Spring sports

Speaking of fever, spring fever isn’t far off for some of our local student athletes. We’re still looking for people to help us chronicle their exploits, even if the notion of baseball or track happens to be slumbering under a blanket of snow at the moment.

Students, coaches, parents or anyone else who regularly attends games or meets is welcome to contact me (email dmunro@skyhidailynews.com) to discuss local high school sports coverage. And that goes for both Middle Park and East Grand high schools.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Grand Life

One of our features we’d like to see be more regular than it has been is Grand Life. These pages are where we feature photographs taken by readers of everyday life in Grand County (this is more for people-oriented pictures rather than scenic or wildlife shots).

This is not reserved to special milestones such as weddings, engagements, anniversaries and the like, though they are definitely welcome. If you and your friends and family are out hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, rafting, kayaking or doing any of the other myriad activities that bring people to Grand County, we’d be happy to provide this forum for you to share images of your adventures.

Simply email photos to news@skyhidailynews.com with Grand Life in the subject line. It’s worth noting that photos for print need to be higher resolution than for on-screen viewing. Generally, photos should be 200 dpi and 6 inches wide or larger. A rule of thumb is that if the file size is smaller than 1 megabyte, it may not be large enough to run full size.

Good Neighbors

We still run our page 1 feature Good Neighbors. However, as is the case with many reader-generated features, these seem to appear in streaks. If you want to recognize an unusual circumstance of neighborly behavior, simply email your Good Neighbor to news@skyhidailynews.com with Good Neighbor in the subject line. Please restrict these to 150 words or less and to instances of neighborly behavior as opposed to thanking individuals or groups for contributing to a cause or a structured event. The latter cases may be handled through letters of thanks.

And thank you all for reading and contributing to the Sky-Hi News.
