Panthers lose to Wildcats, 4-3

The Lady Panthers were back in action on Wednesday afternoon after a two-week break early in the season, but couldn’t quite match up with The Academy Wildcats, losing the game 4-3. The loss drops Middle Park to 2-4 on the year.

Junior Lisa Mcclain had a nice day, recording her team leading seventh goal of the year along with an assist. Mcclain also leads the team with 16 points, averaging better than 2.5 points-per-game.

Junior Taylor Ehlert scored her fifth goal of the season, good enough for second on the team, and Senior Emily Jensen notched her first of the year. Senior Kiera Barr made her first start of the season in goal, allowing four goals and making 13 saves in the match.

The Panthers find themselves sitting at a middling fourth place in the region behind KIPP Denver Collegiate, DSST: Stapleton and Arrupe Jesuit. But with just a third of the season behind them, Middle Park has plenty of time to rebound.

Middle Park will head to Broomfield on Friday to take on The Pinnacle Timberwolves. The matchup looks good on paper, as the 3-6 Timberwolves have struggled to put points on the board all season. Pinnacle has scored only 13 goals in nine games, compared to the 16 Middle Park has scored in six games.

Defense has also been an issue for the Timberwolves, who have allowed opponents to score 10 goals in three of their last five games.

Next week the Panthers will head to Jefferson High School to play the 0-9 Saints on Wednesday, before returning home on Saturday and Sunday for games against the Roosevelt Roughriders and the Arrupe Jesuit Generals.
