People: Arguiens celebrate 50 years of marriage

Paul and Elaine (Sahli) Arguien, of Granby, are celebrating 50 years of marriage. The couple wed on June 1, 1964, in Castle Rock, Colo. They have three children, Lesley, Paul II, and John, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Eleaine has been employed in retail in Grand Lake for almost a decade. She worked with the Chamber of Commerce in Grand Lake for a number of years and volunteered at Rocky Mountain National Park for more than one season.

Besides also working in Grand Lake retail, Paul drove bus for Ryder/First Student, in Winter Park, for longer than a decade. He worked for the Rocky Mountain Nature Association for longer than a decade and volunteered in Rocky Mountain National Par and the Grand Lake Historical Society.

Elaine was born in Michigan and moved to Colorado in 1953. Paul was born in Vermont and moved to Colorado with the Air Force in 1963. Elaine and Paul met and married in 1964. It was a quick two-week romance that led them on a 50-year journey. “Though we discourage such a whirlwind courtship, we couldn’t resist getting caught up in our tornadic love affair,” Paul writes.

“Upon arriving in Grand County in 1993, our first home being Grand Lake, we enjoyed everything about it, the mountains, the cold, the warm people, being able to walk among the beauty all around. It was a happy place in a happy time.”

The couple has nothing planned for June 1, 2014. Cards only, please.
