GRANBY- Middle Park Land Trust will be hosting a very special evening with nationally renowned photographer, publisher, teacher, and preservationist John Fielder from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at Middle Park High School in Granby. The event is free, with a suggested $10 donation at the door.

Prior to the presentation will be a ticket only private reception to meet and talk with John at Brickhouse 40 in Granby. A limited number of tickets are available ($40/each) online at http://www.middleparklandtrust.org, a portion of the proceeds from both events go to support the land trust’s mission.

Fielder is a long time supporter and advocate for land conservation across the state of Colorado and throughout the country. His photos represent many of the beautiful landscapes that have been preserved through the efforts of conservation groups and organizations like the Middle Park Land Trust.

The presentation on Nov. 2, is part of a celebration marking the the 20th anniversary of Colorado voters creating GOCO (Great Outdoors Colorado) and designating up to 50 percent of lottery proceeds go to preserve, protect and enhance the state’s wildlife, parks, rivers, trails and open spaces. GOCO and Colorado nature photographer John Fielder collaborated to commemorate the work achieved with GOCO’s share of lottery funds in two new books:

The Guide to Colorado’s Great Outdoors: Lottery-funded Parks, Trails, Wildlife Areas and Open Spaces, which features many of the places in which GOCO has invested. It is the companion publication to Colorado’s Great Outdoors-Celebrating 20 years of Lottery-funded Lands, which features photographs of some of the most beautiful lands preserved with the help of GOCO funds, from public county open space to private working ranches. Both books would make beautiful holiday gifts and will be available for sale and signed by Fielder at the event.

Fielder drove 35,000 miles in less than two years from one end of Colorado to the other, visiting all of the state’s 64 counties and practically every city and town to complete the project with GOCO. At the event on Nov. 2, the photographer will discuss his work and show photographs that showcase Colorado’s beautiful outdoor landscapes.

Fielder was founding member of GOCO and was appointed by Governor Roy Romer to the Great Outdoors Colorado Board in 1993; he served two four year terms. In 2010, Fielder partnered with GOCO on this celebratory project. He agreed to tour Colorado in 2012 and 2013 to present his photography and recount his impressions of GOCO’s accomplishments in dozens of venues across the state hosted by Colorado’s land protection community including Middle Park Land Trust. The land trust hosted as similar Fielder presentation in 2009 to a packed house at the high school to kick off his book titled Ranches of Colorado.

Fielder has worked tirelessly to promote the protection of Colorado’s ranches, open spaces, and wildlands during his 30-year career as a nature photographer. His photography has influenced people and legislation, earning him recognition including the Sierra Club’s Ansel Adams Award in 1993 and, in 2011, the Aldo Leopold Foundation’s first Achievement Award given to an individual. Over 40 books have been published depicting his Colorado photography. He lives in Summit County and operates a fine art gallery, John Fielder’s Colorado, in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. He teaches photography workshops to adults and children. Information about John and his work can be found at johnfielder.com.

“Middle Park Land Trust is honored to bring John Fielder back to Grand County,” said Carse Pustmueller, the land trust’s executive director. “Our 2009 event with John was an overwhelming success. His current photographs feature Colorado’s protected landscapes and include some of Grand County’s most beautiful places. I encourage folks to come see his new presentation of photographs on November second and to buy his books, calendars and other products. They make great holiday gifts and each purchase helps support the Middle Park Land Trust!”

MPLT is a nonprofit organization with the mission to work with willing landowners to preserve Grand County’s scenery, agriculture, water, wildlife and biodiversity for today and the future. MPLT’s Fraser River Initiative is a program that focuses the land trust’s conservation efforts on preserving the threatened Colorado River headwaters, including the wetlands and land along the Fraser River.  A portion of the proceeds from this event will help advance these efforts.
