50 years in, the Fourth of July pancake breakfast in Grand Lake had another successful year.
According to Grand Lake Rotary, each year the event sells over 1200 tickets, flips 3000 pancakes and sausages, pour over 70 gallons of milk, OJ and syrup. That equals 60,000 tickets, 150,000 pancakes, 3500 gallons of milk, OJ and syrup in the past half century.
“We have people who come back every year since their childhood just to participate — it’s become a family tradition for people from all parts of the US,” says rotary member Dana Gordon.
The Appelhans family started flipping pancakes for this event 50 years ago. Three generations of the family were on hand taking care of business and feeding the masses last weekend.
