PHOTOS: Northern lights visible in Grand County

Kris Ramer had an unexpected surprise on Sunday, Sept. 14 when her Aurora app sent her an alert at 8:30 p.m. Outside in the sky, she saw to about 10 minutes of beautiful color.
“It blows my mind that we can see the northern lights at our lower latitude in Colorado,” she said. “These (photos) are from my driveway in Granby.”
The next several months still offer a good chance to see the northern lights because the current solar cycle is at or near its peak, known as solar maximum. This is expected to continue through early 2026 with increased solar activity, marked by more frequent solar flares and coronal mass ejections, that heightens the likelihood of auroras.
