These photos show an avalanche west of Berthoud Pass above Current Creek that a skier triggered Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17. Grand County Search and Rescue responded to the incident just before 2 p.m. but quickly stood down as it became apparent no one had been injured or caught in the slide.

It is not clear at this time who was involved in the incident.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center rates the current avalanche danger level in this area as moderate. Even at this rating level, however, slopes such as this one are prone to human-triggered slides. Backcountry visitors should exercise caution and be prepared for slides at all times.
