Photos: Skier triggers avalanche near Berthoud Pass

These photos show an avalanche west of Berthoud Pass above Current Creek that a skier triggered Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17. Grand County Search and Rescue responded to the incident just before 2 p.m. but quickly stood down as it became apparent no one had been injured or caught in the slide.

It is not clear at this time who was involved in the incident.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center rates the current avalanche danger level in this area as moderate. Even at this rating level, however, slopes such as this one are prone to human-triggered slides. Backcountry visitors should exercise caution and be prepared for slides at all times.

Parent company of Sky-Hi News sells to Ogden Newspapers

Swift Communications, the parent company of the Sky-Hi News and other Colorado mountain town newspapers, is selling its local media and publishing businesses to West Virginia-based Ogden Newspapers, the companies announced Tuesday morning.
