Picture embarrassed defendant, newspaper

To the Editor:

When opening the Oct. 3 Manifest, I felt embarrassed both for the lady that is pictured on the front page in her orange suit as well as the newspaper.

I try my best not to criticize a profession that I do not have knowledge of, but I feel compelled to voice my opinion to whomever made the decision to put this picture on the front page.

Why not put a shot of the changing colors, the snow on the peaks, the changing colors in front of the town hall, something about the upcoming Oktoberfest, a scarecrow (many are sitting around town) or, if you want orange, one of the carved pumpkins?

Just yesterday I opened a nice letter from you, the new publishers of our local newspaper, introducing yourselves and describing yourselves as professional journalists, and what we have to look forward to with your team heading up the newspaper. I am disappointed.

This is tacky. I feel that this type of reporting is in bad taste.

This woman made a bad mistake; let’s not hang her in front of the community. You have a cops and robbers column that is alive and well in your daily paper. Anyone who is interested in the story can simply turn to this page.
