Grand Lake, CO Colorado

As many as 100 pink-accessorized snowmobilers will be taking to the trails near Grand Lake this weekend.

The organization Pink Ribbon Riders, based in Michigan, is conducting its first-ever fundraising stop in Colorado at Grand Lake in an effort to bring direct financial support to men and women with breast cancer in the state.

During the organization’s 2012 Snow Tour, it has made event stops in Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, now Colorado, and next Wyoming in order to fund its Pink Ribbon Riders Patient Assistance Program. Grand Lake is the only stop in Colorado.

“We proposed to many different towns, and Grand Lake came forward with the best situation to have the event,” said event organizer Jody McKay of the Pink Ribbon Riders. “This event needs to be successful to open assistance in Colorado.”

Funds raised stay in the states in which events are held. The nonprofit organization donates $500 gift cards to patients with daily financial struggles such as medical bills, gas money, food money or other needs.

Those pre-registered for the Snow Run event in Grand Lake are mostly from out of state, according to Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce Director Lisa Jenkins, but the event is open to anyone who wants to participate.

The Friday evening and Saturday event will mostly take place from the Winding River Ranch, and includes group snowmobile rides, music, auctions, giveaways, and awards.
