Pipe bomb scare forces evacuation of Denver building

DENVER (AP) – A reported pipe bomb forced the temporary evacuation of an apartment building about a half mile east of the State Capitol.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says a landlord who was evicting tenants from a third-floor apartment found the suspicious device and contacted police.

Residents who were home were asked to leave while a bomb squad entered the apartment and rendered the device harmless around noon Wednesday.

Police have started a criminal investigation. Jackson did not immediately have details about the device.
