Plane crash update: Deceased identified as couple from Las Vegas
September 22, 2008
The names of two victims in last Thursday’s airplane crash near Kremmling were released Monday.
The deceased are Floyd Brooks Williams, 51, president of Brooks Corp. LLC, Las Vegas, Nev. and his wife Diane Lynn Williams, 51, a Registered Nurse and Director of Women’s Services in Las Vegas.
In a press release listing the names of the victims, Grand County Coroner Brenda Bock said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
According to earlier reports, the twin-engine Piper PA-60 Aerostar flown by the Williams took off from the North Las Vegas Airport in Nevada earlier Thursday and then crashed while attempting to land at Kremmling’s McElroy Airport about 8:25 p.m.
The crash took place about two miles west of Kremmling in a hayfield owned by the Grand River Ranch. The explosion and fire in the hayfield alerted residents to the accident.
Kremmling Police officers rushed to the scene, guided across the hayfield’s irrigation ditches in the darkness by Grand River Ranch employees. Also quickly reaching the crash site were members of the Kremmling Fire Department, Grand County EMS, Grand County Sheriff and Grand County Coroner’s Office.
In addition to the two people killed in the crash, the bodies of two dogs were also found in the wreckage.
A team of aircraft crash investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reached the crash site Friday afternoon.
