Police investigate Craigslist baby ad

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Police say they’re searching for a Colorado Springs couple who apparently tried to give away their newborn baby through Craigslist, and they’re also looking into the possibility that the Web advertisement was a hoax.

Local police said in a statement late Friday that they received information from Craigslist about the ad.

Authorities are trying to find the person or people responsible but have not yet been able to identify them.

The state’s Safe Haven law allows parents to leave a baby at fire departments or hospital emergency rooms without fear of criminal prosecution.

Police are urging whoever posted the ad to contact them.
