Popular ski day could see rough weather

The Denver Post

As thousands of winter sports enthusiasts head to the high country today to enjoy one of the ski season’s peak days, stormy mountain weather could make for a frustrating holiday.

While highs for the Denver area are forecast to be in the mid- 50s today, the National Weather Service expects snow and highs of about 30 degrees for many mountain areas.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for areas above 9,000 feet until 5 a.m. Tuesday, and the Weather Service warns of 60 mph wind gusts, up to 2 feet of snow and snow-packed roads.

“This will make travel very hazardous or impossible,” said a warning issued by the Weather Service.
