Preserve the Grand County economy " award Fraser rec district contracts to local builders

To the Editor:

Is there a recession? In times of possible economic slowdown, spurring the local economy becomes of paramount importance to all who live and work here.

The (Fraser Valley) recreation center has been a dream of many locals for many years. Because of the hard work of local residents, this dream is soon to be a reality.

This hard work needs to be commended and complimented through board diligence as we push through the building selection process.

I ask that all board members continue the efforts of local residents and support the local economy by hiring local builders to build the recreation center and the Pole Creek Clubhouse and restroom facilities.

Scenario One:

Local builder awarded the job ” Millions of dollars spur the local economy. A local builder employs local employees and local subs, they use local banks, CPAs and attorneys. They gas their vehicles at local gas stations, shop at local stores, eat at local restaurants and support the economy by paying taxes to Grand County government.

Scenario Two:

Out-of-county builder awarded the job ” Millions of dollars leave the county. Out-of-county builders use out-of-county subs, use out-of-county CPAs and out-of-county attorneys. They fuel up at out-of-county gas station, shop at out-of-county stores, employ staff who live, work and pay taxes out of the county.

As a Grand County resident and Winter Park taxpayer, I am urging all Fraser Metropolitan Recreation District Board members to work toward Scenario One and vote for the qualified local contractors who are vying for their chance to build all three projects.

Keep the money here in the county. Help these builders continue to provide jobs for local employees, subcontractors and local businesses.
