Public safety: Routt County crash kills two motorists

CRAIG (AP) ” Two people are dead after a two-vehicle head-on crash in Routt County.

It happened just before 2:00 p.m. Thursday along U.S. Highway 40, about 14 miles east of Craig.

The Colorado State Patrol says a westbound Chrysler Cirrus drifted into the eastbound lane and slammed into a Ford Focus.

The Chrysler then went back across the westbound lanes and off the road. The Ford rolled over on its right side, slid across the eastbound lanes, and rolled again.

A 36-year-old man driving the Chrysler died at the scene, as did a 26-year-old man driving the Ford.

It’s unclear if they were wearing seat belts.

Two children in the Chrysler, ages 3 and 15, were hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The victims’ names have not been released.
