Railroad Museum model on display in Granby on Wednesday night

A model of the proposed Moffat Road Railroad Museum will be on display Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Granby Town Hall during the Grand County Model Railroad Club meeting from 7-9 p.m. The public is invited.

Modeled after an old fashioned engine house, the museum will sit on a one-half acre town parcel near County Road 574 along the railroad tracks next to Kaibab ballpark. The eastern boundary is the outfield fence of the last field to the west. The town has leased the land to the museum for $10 a year in a 30-year lease.

Also planned is an interpretive park with a steam engine and caboose. The railroad club hopes to break ground as soon as possible, depending on funding.

At 7:45 p.m., museum specialist and railroad fan Rand Hood of Visual West in Larkspur will share ideas for the museum. Hood recently designed the Kit Carson County Carousel Museum in Burlington, and owns a large collection of Moffat Road memorabilia.

Anyone interested in learning about Granby’s first tourist attraction is welcome to attend. For more information, please call Dave Naples at 970.281.9094, or Jack Bakken at 970.887.9563.
