Ralph Green: Nothing more than pure ‘bull pucky’

To the Editor:

This past Wednesday there was an opinion presented by Mr. Tim T. Schowalter suggesting that “Voting for Democrats is voting for the dark side of forced unionism.”

I am not seeing an indication of his “violence or dark side.” Perhaps he might have some reference material that might enlighten us.

In the meantime, what Mr. Schowalter stated is simply not true.

“For instance, while the Institute has recorded 8,799 incidents of union violence since 1975, (that being over the past 37 years) only 1,963 arrests and 258 convictions have been found,” according to the National Institute for Labor Relations Research (http://nilrr.org/resources/violence-event-data-file/). “It is difficult to believe that local news media who covered the violence resulting from a strike would not follow up on any subsequent legal action. Thus, it appears that of the violent incidents recorded in the Institute’s Data File, barely three percent of those incidents have led to an arrest and conviction.”

This information dates back to 1975. That’s 6.97 convictions per year. Is this really the “Dark side of forced unionism?” This is NOT the 1930s, ’40s or ’50s.

Where is Mr. Schowalter’s justification for such a statement?

This is nothing more than pure “bull pucky.”
