Reader argues for use of "Rollins Pass" nomer

Regarding the article in the March 26 issue of the Sky-Hi Daily News about opening the railroad route over the Continental Divide, the correct name of the pass is “Rollins Pass,” named for John Quincy Adams Rollins, who first carved out the wagon road.

Corona was the name of the road house on top to provide a rest stop for weary train travelers who were passengers of the Denver Northwestern and Pacific Railway after David Moffat and others built the railroad.

On another subject – Congratulations to the mayors and trustees of the towns of Kremmling, Winter Park and Greeley for passing the ordinance banning medical marijuana dispensaries.

Editor’s note: While we understand that USGS maps and others have “officially” named the pass Rollins, we made a deliberate decision to honor the tradition that those on this side of the Continental Divide refer to the pass as Corona.
