On April 5, residents across the United States gathered in protest of the Trump administration and its newly created Department of Government Efficiency.

In Grand County, the Grand County Dems helped organize the protest, which took place from 4-5 p.m. at the intersection near Safeway along U.S. Highway 40 in Fraser.

Protestors held signs decrying cuts to federal agencies, such as the U.S. Forest Service, National Parks Service and Department of Education. Protestors’ signs also opposed potential cuts to services that support vulnerable populations, such as Social Security and Medicaid.

The White House gave the following statement to The Associated Press regarding the Hands Off! movement: “President Trump’s position is clear: He will always protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for eligible beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the Democrats’ stance is giving Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare benefits to illegal aliens, which will bankrupt these programs and crush American seniors.”
