Recreation bond issue makes sense for golf course

As a retired golf course superintendent, I would like to respond to the upcoming bond issue.

From the standpoint of ecology, it only makes sense to install a new sprinkling system at Pole Creek Golf Course. With a more efficient system, water and power will both be economized.

A new clubhouse means that golf carts can be stored for the winter, thereby saving wear and tear. Carts can then be converted to electric instead of gas, which is another plus for the environment.

The original clubhouse was built to accommodate 18 holes of golf; now, with 27 holes, it is no longer adequate. In order to better serve the public, a larger kitchen is a must.

Pole Creek Golf Course was given an excellent rating in 2007/2008 by Zagat Guide Book, and this same travel guide rated Pole Creek the No. 1 golf course to play in the Rocky Mountain region for 2006-07. In order for the golf

course to maintain these standards, it is imperative that improvements be made.

As pointed out at the open meeting, the recreation center is a big bonus for our property values. If we don’t take advantage of the opportunity of having the property donated for this center, which is valued at between $3 million and $4 million, we may lose out on it forever.

Somewhere down the road this community is going to have to build a recreation center, and it’s only going to get more costly as time goes on.

After living on the Front Range for several years, I feel that the taxes up here are a real deal. I certainly don’t feel overtaxed and feel that the bond issue is a win-win situation.

I hope everyone will think long and hard about all of the advantages this will afford all of us in the valley.
