Recycling may end completely at Granby landfill

Recycling in Grand County is not guaranteed to last through 2009, according to a letter from the county sent to the towns of Winter Park, Fraser, Granby, Grand Lake and Hot Sulphur Springs.

Due to town budget decisions to not partner with the county, recycling at the Granby Landfill could cease sooner than later.

Grand County budgeted $44,000, which covers its share of the estimated recycling costs in 2009 – $10,000 of which was allocated for sharing with Grand Lake, and $34,000 with Winter Park, Fraser, Granby and Hot Sulphur.

“Grand County will continue to pay in-full the monthly recycling bills until our budgeted amount is expended,” wrote commissioners. “At that time, we will suspend recycling efforts until the next budget cycle when hopefully you may be able to partner with us in this effort.”

Commissioners thanked towns for past assistance in recycling and said they respect towns’ decisions and understand their needs.
