Sales tax: Things looking up in Kremmling
May 22, 2009
Kremmling sales tax collections in March halted a four-month slide compared with the previous year, posting a modest gain over March 2008.
Collections for March were $44,676 compared with $44,397 in March 2008, a gain of about 0.63 percent.
Kremmling sales tax revenues had declined in November (-3.5 percent) and December (-4.76 percent) 2008, and in January (-9 percent) and February (-9.49 percent).
Town Manager Ted Soltis expressed relief at the turnaround.
Last month he told Town Council members that the town could “weather the storm” if necessary by reducing large expenses in the 2009 budget, which anticipated slightly higher sales tax revenues this year because of the opening of a new hotel.
Town officials also pointed out that 2008 sales tax collections were the highest ever for the town.
