Scott Tipton returns to Legislature for visit

DENVER (AP) – Republican Rep. Scott Tipton is back in the Colorado Capitol – only this time he’ll be visiting as a U.S. congressman, not a state representative.

The pottery dealer from Cortez served two years in the state House. Last fall he unseated three-term Democratic Rep. John Salazar.

Salazar is awaiting confirmation as the head of the state Agriculture Department and says he won’t challenge Tipton in 2012. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee earlier this week did not put the western Colorado district on its list of top races where it intends to challenge Republicans.

In Washington, Tipton is on the House Small Business Committee.
