Search called off for missing Atlanta hiker

SAGUACHE, Colo. (AP) – The search for a hiker from Atlanta presumed missing in Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains has been called off.

The search for 38-year-old Abisha “Abe” Mounce started in November, when his wife reported him missing. His vehicle had been found abandoned in late October at the North Crestone Trailhead.

Saguache County authorities called off the search until spring after employing dog teams and 40 searchers to look for the man.

Mounce’s wife told police that he e-mailed her on Oct. 21 to say he was quitting his computer technology job and going hiking for a couple of weeks.

The (Alamosa) Valley Courier reports that fliers have been posted around at the trailhead until a recovery operation can begin in spring.
