Silverthorne post offices consolidate
summit daily news
Boxholders at the Silverthorne branch of the United States Postal Service will check for mail down the street in a few months, after it’s consolidated with the nearby Buffalo Mountain branch.
Both post office branches are located on Brian Avenue in Silverthorne – the Silverthorne branch is at 390 Brian Avenue and the Buffalo Mountain branch is at 518 Brian Avenue.
The move should occur in May.
USPS consumer affairs manager Marcela Juarez Rivera said both are leased facilities and the Silverthorne location’s lease is expiring at the end of the month. The postal service is seeking a month-to-month extension with the owners while they remodel and update the Buffalo Mountain branch. The Buffalo Mountain branch is partway through its 25-year lease, Juarez Rivera said.
The decrease in mail volume is causing the postal service to look for nearby facilities and consolidating to reduce costs, she said. No employees are to be impacted other than to work at a different facility.
“Overall, the (postal service) is looking at optimizing its facility space,” Juarez Rivera said. No changes are in store for the post offices in Frisco, Breckenridge or Dillon – the main post office on Lake Dillon Drive remains in place there. Review of such action takes a long time and plenty of notice is given, she said.
Silverthorne branch customers should see little to no change, other than to check mail in a different location. Boxholders should have been notified of the move via notices in their boxes and in the lobby of the Silverthorne branch, Juarez Rivera said, but their box numbers shouldn’t change.
The Buffalo Mountain branch – a no-staff annex facility that was added after the Silverthorne branch – has about 4,000 boxes, of which roughly 500 are being used. Approximately 3,200 addresses will be transferred from the Silverthorne branch to the Buffalo Mountain branch, Juarez Rivera said.
“It should be an ample fit,” she said.
She added that remodeling should enable the Buffalo Mountain facility to become a full-service branch.
