Skier fatality reported at Winter Park Resort – cause of death unknown

A 54-year-old man from Virginia was found unconscious on the Village Way Trail at Winter Park Resort shortly before 1 p.m. Dec. 8, according to a resort press release.
There were no signs of trauma.
Resort ski patrollers responded immediately and attempted to revive the individual. He was then transported to Seven Mile Clinic at the base of Winter Park Resort, where doctors pronounced the man dead at approximately 1:26 p.m.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. A routine investigation is under way.
“We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the individual’s family and friends for their loss,” said Gary DeFrange, president and chief operating officer of Winter Park Resort.
