Skier who died at Winter Park after hitting tree reportedly from metro area

A skier died after hitting a tree Saturday morning at Winter Park Resort.

In a press release, the resort reported that a 39-year-old woman had hit a tree while skiing on lower Mary Jane Trail. When found at 9:02 a.m., she was “unresponsive.”

Winter Park Resort ski patrollers were in the area and rushed immediately to the unconscious woman. The ski patrollers administered CPR while transporting the skier to the Seven Mile Clinic at the base of Winter Park Resort. Doctors there pronounced her dead at about 9:30 a.m.

The Fraser-Winter Park Police and the Grand County Coroner responded to the clinic. The official cause of death had not been determined by the coroner as of Saturday afternoon. A routine investigation of the incident is under way.

“This is a very sad day for all of us and our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the skier,” said Darcy Morse, communications manager for Winter Park Resort.

The woman skier was reported to have been from the Denver Metro area. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
