Snow has buried more than a few careers
I find it fascinating how Ms Muftic can selectively choose her facts – even when it comes to snow storms and big city plowing problems. Although much of what she wrote was true, when it came to a Republican mayor and a Republican governor her bias entered by omission. Nowhere in her editorial did she mention that there are serious charges pending because some of the NY City Sanitation Workers Union (who clear the snow) apparently failed to show up to work and many of those that did purposely slowed down their efforts during the storm. She blames the mayor for the deaths that are attributed to the problem – ignoring the failure of the snow removal union members. She then denigrates the NJ governor for remaining in Disney World (on a family vacation) and permitting the lieutenant governor to be in Mexico during the blizzard. Were there two trucks sitting idle while they were gone? Are their union employees incapable of acting without the governor present? Should the mere fact that airports were shut down keep them from rushing back to drive a plow? Are telephones useless in a blizzard? The real lesson to be learned here is that government workers have an entitlement attitude and sweet contracts that place them above the public good and Ms Muftic is one of their champions.
