Snowball throwing leads to citation

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen CO Colorado

ASPEN – A trio of men learned early Sunday morning that sometimes a good aim can backfire on you.

Police reported that three Front Range men – David Shefte, 28; David Trainer, 28; and Kurt Heckel, 36 – were throwing snowballs from the roof above Pitkin County Dry Goods on Cooper Avenue in Aspen. One of the snowballs struck the face of a pedestrian who was walking down the street.

The victim called police, telling them once he confronted the men about the snowballs, one of them called him “faggot.” When Sgt. Rob Fabrocini interviewed the suspects, they confessed to throwing snowballs, according to a police report.

Police cited them for violating city code called “throwing missiles prohibited.” Shefte accepted a summons on behalf of the three suspects and told authorities he would pay the fine associated with the ordinance infraction.
