Snowmass ski patroller seriously hurt in collision with tree

Aspen Times staff report

SNOWMASS – A Snowmass ski patroller was seriously injured Sunday when he hit a tree during a routine end-of-day sweep of the lower Alpine Springs area.

Patroller Tim Brown suffered serious head and neck injuries in the collision, according to Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle. Brown was airlifted to a hospital in Denver on Sunday; Hanle could not elaborate Monday night on the extent of Brown’s injuries nor his prognosis.

According to Skico President and CEO Mike Kaplan, Brown is a third-year patroller at Snowmass.

“Tim is an outgoing and beloved member of the patrol,” Kaplan said via e-mail. “Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family, co-workers and friends in the valley. Please keep Tim in your thoughts as he fights to recover from these injuries.”
