Granby " Middle Park track team season begins Saturday
March 6, 2008
Middle Park High School’s outdoor track and its athletic fields may still be buried under a couple feet of snow, but that’s not stopping the Panther track and field team from starting its 2008 season.
The Panthers will be competing in their first meet on Saturday at the Brighton Relays. The track events begin at 8 a.m. with the field competitions starting at 10 a.m.
“It’s exciting to start another season,” said coach Christine Dubois-Miller. “The kids are looking strong already. This Saturday will be our first look at how well they are doing.”
The current roster for Middle Park’s track and field team is:
Girls ” Amanda Lange, Colby Bull, Elsa Krieg, Hannah Garcia, Jacqueline Thomas, Jessica Gleisberg, Kathy Childress, Katie Mattfeld, Kelly Little, Lihla Clancy, Melissa Plum, Quincey Pedersen, Samantha Berggren and Sarah Williams.
Boys ” Ben Shipman, Charlie Miller, Conner Nicklas, Duncan Dearduff, Jake Finch, Jared Cooper, Joe Visconti, Josh VanNatta, Mark Schmidt, Mateo Jackson, Matt Naschak, Mike Schmidt, Mitch Steffen, Nathaniel Ziegler, Patrick Hutchins, Scott Malley, Simon Nicol, Vinny Crippen and Zach Peterson.
“We currently have 20 boys and 15 girls for a total of 35,” Dubois-Miller said. “Most years, we have between 40 to 50 athletes. We’re still waiting to see who else is coming out, such as the Winter Park Competition Center skiers who are still racing.
“While we don’t have a lot of depth right now, we do have some real strengths,” she said. “We have six returning state qualifiers.”
The Panthers’ returning state qualifiers are Mike Schmidt, Zach Peterson, Jacqueline Thomas, Amanda Lange, Sarah Williams and Tracie Kroneberger.
“With our returning state qualifiers and our new athletes, I think we’re looking for another successful season.”
Assisting Dubois-Miller in coaching this season’s team are Jim “Cajun” Courville, Dick Romshek and Mike Loftsgard.
