Grand County Nordic events this weekend

The Nordic season winds down this month as children’s programs come to an end and final races are held.
The last Friday Fun Kid’s Cross Country Ski Program is 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 12 at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Kids play on skis and learn to have fun in the snow. Hot cocoa to follows in the Nordic Center. Contact Cassidy Edwards at Devils Thumb Activities Center, 970-726-8231.
YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch
The last individual Biathlon will be March 13 at the YMCA. Go to coloradobiathlon.org for details or call 303-985-4481.
The YMCA offers free skiing for Grand County locals on Wednesdays. Call the Nordic Shop for sales on special equipment purchases. An informal training race series lets you time yourself every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Thanks to the many volunteers who helped with aid stations and sponsors for prizes for the age classes during the 27th Annual Alpina Stampede March 6.

Grand Nordic skiers traveled to West Yellowstone for the West Yellowstone Rendezvous with excellent results. Jan Hughes was 1st followed by Tina Wilson in the women’s 50-54 age class. Grace Dyck was 1st in the women’s 65-69 age class. Bob Hughes was 1st in the men’s 60-64 age group. Mel Dyck 2nd in the men’s 65-69 age group and Tim Carter 1st in the men’s 70-74 age group. Fraser to Granby Trail open for winter use
Join the Fraser Valley Partnership for Trails (FVPT) and the Winter Park/Fraser Chamber of Commerce Saturday, March 13, for a celebration of the new Winter Park to Fraser groomed winter-use trail. Hot chocolate and cookies will be supplied at Hideaway Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or call Diana Lynn Rau at 970-887-3095. The trail is being groomed this year from Winter Park Resort through Winter Park to Fraser on the Fraser River trail and from Tabernash to the YMCA by volunteers from FVPT and Headwater Trails Alliance for hikers, snowshoers, and cross country skiers. Dogs are welcome but please pick up after your dog. Access is free to the public.
