Grand Lake golf clubs crank up the tournaments

The men’s and women’s golf clubs at the Grand Lake Golf Course have really gotten into the swing of things with some fun competitions recently.
The ladies golfers of the Grand Lake Golf Course played a couple of hotly contested tournaments on their home greens and fairways on Tuesday, July 1.
The Grand Lake Nifty Niners Ladies Club awarded first place to Lee Rogers with Gladys Howard coming in a close second. Pris Corbus and Margaret Nill tied for third place in a tournament that allowed players to “throw out” their two worst holes.
In another hard-fought tournament the same day, the Grand Lake Tee Bags Ladies 18-hole club paid Sharon Curtis first place money with Phyllis Stephens coming in second, followed by Lorraine Johnson in third. Marlene Messer had a chip-in on the third hole, and Lorraine Johnson was in the money for the fewest putts with 30.
The Grand Lake Golf Course Men’s Club held a Fire Cracker Special golf match on Wednesday, Juyl 2.
The match was a four-man team, best two balls of the foursome. The results were: first place ” Jim Nosbish, Ed Bittle, Kent Laflin, and Ed Philbeck; second place ” Ed Peterson, Bernie Hahn, Don Summers, and Greg Buenzli; and third Place ” Pat Spieles, Dick Lucas, John Drury, and John Mock.
“The weather was great, the course was awesome, and a great time was had by all,” said John Drury, the club’s publicity chairman.
