Kremmling " West Grand boys end season with win over North Park

KREMMLING, COLORADO ” The West Grand High School boys basketball team endeid its regular season on a high note as they defeated the Wildcats of North Park for the second time this season.
The Mustangs and Wildcats engaged in a relatively high-scoring contest with West Grand taking a 32-25 lead into the halftime locker room. In the second half, the superior bench strength for the Mustangs wore down the team from Walden and West Grand coasted to a 61-38 victory.
A highlight in the game was that 11 of the players who suited up for coach Leo Pesch got into the scoring column. The scoring parade was led by Ryan Smith with 11 points, Sky Handyside with 10 points and Fletcher Flanigan with nine points.
Also getting into the scoring column for the Mustangs were Matt Johnson and Travis Gore (six points apiece), Cody Wilson (5), Drew Klotz and Stetson Sabados (each with four points), Tim Ritschard (3), RJ Cummings (2) and Zach Ahrens (1).
In the second half, the Mustang defense held the visiting Wildcats to a total of 13 points.
“We had an extremely good week of practice,” Pesch said. “The boys worked hard and it showed in our fast break attack. I was pleased with the hustle tonight and I felt our passing was fairly crisp on the fast break.”
Smith led the team with three-pointers, as he hit a trifecta of long-range shots.
Leading the scoring for the Wildcats was Pat Drakulich with 12 points and Zane Sanchez with nine points.
The Mustangs finished in eighth place in the Western Slope League and will travel to Meeker next Saturday to face the Cowboys in the first round of the district tournament.
