Winter Park skiers finish on top at Rocky Mountain Devo Freestyle Championship
March 26, 2010
The Rocky Mountain Devo Freestyle Championship was held March 13-14 in Telluride. Winter Park sent over 20 athletes and came home with two state champions and many more podiums.
Freestyle Devo is a developmental program for skiers 12 and younger.
Leading the way for Winter Park on the 11-12-year-old group was Jesse Andringa, who came out the State Champ. With a great second run (as he has done all year), Jesse left no doubt that he was the one to beat. The only one who came close was fellow teammate and local Winter Park resident Tyler Schuessler, who placed second.
Winter Park finished with five athletes in the top eight. Congrats to Jesse in 1st, Tyler in 2nd, Jack Lucas in 5th, Joel Hedrick in 6th, and Ty Lightly in 8th.
In the 9-10-year-old group Winter Park resident Tanner Lyle also claimed the title of State Champion. Tanner was followed by fellow Winter Park Skier Nick Rimelman in 2nd, Nick Mordini in 6th, Henry Coors in 8th and Liam Elkins in 10th.
The Winter Park 11-12-year-old girls also had a great day by placing four athletes in the top nine spots. Hallee Ray led the group with two solid runs and ended up in 3rd place. Hallee was followed by Jorden Zoller in 4th, Stephanie Llorente in 6th, and Kaylee Moniz in 9th.
Winter Park’s lone 9-10-year girl competitor, Heidi Andringa, skied great and ended up in 5th place.
In the 8-years-old and younger group, Winter Park also had a great showing with Freddy Ingham taking 2nd place and Brendan Elkins taking 4th place. In the girls division Isabelle Currat took 2nd place.
