40-inch fish caught in Three Lakes catch-release

The Three Lakes ice fishing contest had almost 1,000 entrants this year with more than 60 kids as well. The biggest fish brought to the scales was a 7-pound Rainbow followed by a 5-pound Rainbow. We had 11 pictures entered in the catch-and-release category, with the biggest fish just longer than 40 inches.

Rainbows and Browns are being caught in Granby, Grand Lake, Wolford, Williams Fork and Willow Creek reservoirs in shallow water close to the banks. Small jigs tipped with bait are working well. Kokanee are biting well at Wolford and Willow Creek out in the old river channel with small PK spoons tipped with bait. Lake trout fishing is doing very well at Granby, Williams Fork and Green Mountain Reservoirs, 2”-4” jigs tipped with sucker meat is working in 40-80 feet of water.
