Add to your winter race calendar, Nordic Race Series

Sky-Hi News Staff Report

Colorado Cross Country Ski Association (CCCSA) announced this week the lineup for the inaugural 2017 Colorado Nordic Race Series, taking place at four iconic Colorado destinations between January and March 2017.

With a mix of classic and skate skiing, plus prizes for individual races and overall grand champions, these are four dates you’ll want to mark down on your winter calendar.

The four races

The series will consist of four races with both classic and skate skiing focuses.

The series kicks off at Devil’s Thumb Ranch on Jan. 21 with the 30-km Stagecoach Classic.

The second race is the 42-km skate-style Alley Loop Nordic Marathon hosted at Crested Butte Nordic on Feb. 4.

Just one week later on Feb. 12, the 21-km classic Owl Creek Chase leads participants from Snowmass Village to Aspen.

The series finishes on March 11 at Snow Mountain Ranch with the 50-km Snow Mountain Stampede.

Post-race activities include barbecues, live music and beer gardens.

After the conclusion of the series, prizes and awards will be presented to first, second and third place finishers in each age division for males and females. Grand prize winners will be awarded for the first, second and third place finishers in male and female division in the series.

For those who have never tried the sport, or are just learning, this series will provide motivation for training and practicing. After all, no one starts as a pro.
