Andrea Arnold, 17 from Tabernash and a senior at Middle Park High School, is heading to Norway to compete in the Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympics. She will be representing the Czech Republic in the alpine events.
She comes from a line of Olympians. Her mother, Ivana Arnold skied for Czech Republic and her father, Landis Arnold represented the USA in ski jumping.
Andrea Arnold has been a competitive ski racer since she was 5 years-old. She spends her summers in the Czech Republic and winters in Winter Park. Summers include visiting family in Liberec, two hours north of Prague and attending ski camps in France.
Right now between online classes to graduate high school in June, ski training, and cross training, she is trying to gain weight and get strong. Cross training includes many days in the gym with weights, core strength, running and swimming.
Arnold’s long-term plans are to join the CU Ski Team next year and to make a go at the Olympics when the timing is right.
She left for Prague on Tuesday to visit family then will head to Norway the following week.
“I don’t know what the competition is yet. We will find out once we are there,” she said.
One boy and one girl from each country, for each sport, compete in the Youth Olympics.
