Athlete of the Week: Jordan Ehlert

Last week Jordan Ehlert, 17, of Fraser had two huge accomplishments:

He became the all-time leading scorer for MPHS at the MPHS vs. Platte Canyon game on Jan. 27 and he scored his 1,000 career point before halftime during The Academy game on Feb. 4.

Ehlert has been playing basketball since 2nd grade. He loves playing and watching sports.

“Sports are on our TV all the time; it’s all we watch,” said Ehlert.

He gave up playing other sports a few years ago to concentrate solely on basketball.

“I enjoy working hard, sweating and getting better,” he said.

“I feel better after practice knowing I worked hard.”

Nutrition and eating well are part of his training plan. He doesn’t eat fast food and his mother, Diane, prepares healthy, home-cooked meals.

“He makes me get up early to to go to the gym and rebound,” said his dad and coach Jeff Ehlert.

They practice at the Grand Park Rec Center during the week and will often be the first to enter the doors at 6 a.m.

“I wish I had that work ethic,” Jeff said.

“It is amazing that he found what he loved. He is afraid someone is working harder than him so he works even harder.”

Jordan is self-motivated and dedicated to training and getting better every day. After his final high school basketball season is over this year he said he will spend time working on his game and getting ready for college.

As of Wednesday, Feb. 8 he has received a full ride to play basketball at the University of Dallas, a Division 3 school. He hasn’t decided for sure where he will go, as the offers roll in.
