Barnelopet glides into Snow Mountain Ranch on Saturday
Rekindle your Scandinavian roots on Feb. 26 and bring the kids out for the annual Barnelopet sponsored by the Sons of Norway District Six Lodges in Colorado.
Barnelopet, which means “children’s race, will be held at Legett Hall, Snow Mountain Ranch-YMCA. Children up to age 16 are welcome to ski in the race for free. Ski rentals are available at the Nordic Center if needed.
Check in time is 9 a.m. at Legett Hall. Ski Lessons are 9:30-11:15 a.m. Barnelopet Race starts at 11:30 a.m. Parents and others can line up at the finish banner to cheer the skiers on with cowbells and flags and see all the children receive gold metals for their efforts.
The lodges provide a reception with cookies, fruit, drinks and hot chocolate at Legett Hall after the race.
Volunteers are needed to help with registration, ski instruction, marshaling the course and start/finish lines, food preparation (four dozen cookies to be supplied by Storfjell Lodge), and cleanup afterward. To volunteer call Jon-Eirik at 970-412-0433 or Ransom Rice at 970-509-0123.
At 2 p.m. in Legett Hall, new officers will be installed at a general membership meeting of Storfjell Lodge.
