Doc Brown needed a Delorean to go back in time; participants in the Grand Heritage Cycling Tour can do it on two wheels.
For three days, August 22 to 25, cyclists will learn about the unique history of Grand County, while cycling through Kremmling, Hot Sulphur Springs, Grand Lake and Winter Park.
Grand County has a lengthy and diverse history, beginning with Stone Age settlers (artifacts from more than 10,000 years ago have been found in Barger Gulch). Ute Indians gave way to mountain men and trappers, then the first families that still inhabit Grand County. In addition to learning about the history of the area, cyclists will experience scenic vistas and summit some of the most iconic mountain passes in Colorado.
The Grand Heritage Cycling Tour begins in Kremmling on Aug. 22 and concludes in Winter Park on Aug. 25. The cycling tour’s $150 registration fee includes a welcome party, sag-wagon for technical support, aid stations along the ride, historical interpretation including performances by Grand County Characters, entrances to four museums, indoor barbecue dinner and historical movie al fresco at Pioneer Park, film showings at Grand Lake Community House and a Grand Finale Celebration at Beavers Lodge in Winter Park.
Proceeds will benefit Grand County historical and trail nonprofit organizations.
