Garrett captures wrestling title

Middle Park High School, 145-pound senior Shelby Garrett captured the title at the MPHS Wrestling Tournament Dec. 5. Garrett is the first MPHS tournament champion in many years., according to coach Cal Cherrington.

“Shelby wrestled hard and he wrestled well, a great combination,” Carrington said. Nathan Birdseye, 152, and Brian Macchione, 189, placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

“All in all we wrestled pretty well, compiling a record of 18 wins and 14 losses,” Cherrington said.

Wrestlers who did not place were: Brandon Strang, 3-2; Conor Peters, 2-2; Mitch Steffen, 2-2; Greg Griffon, 0-2; and, Cody Garrett, 2-2.

Other results

On Friday, Dec. 3, the Panther wrestlers faced of with Lake County. Only three matches were contested. Brandon Strang was defeated 3-1 by AJ Salazar, 112. Sage Wall, 125, was pinned. The remaining four Panther wrestlers received forfeits.

The final score was 36-9, in favor of Middle Park.
