Granby: Tournament to benefit MPHS golf team
Middle Park High School and the Grand County golf community invites you to support the MPHS Golf Team by coming out to play golf on Tuesday, June 17. The location is Grand Elk Golf Course and the cost is $75 which includes your green fee, cart fee, range balls and GPS.
The entire $75 goes to support the MPHS Golf team and will be used to cover travel costs, coaching, uniforms, golf bags, etc. You can play anytime during the day, but booking your tee time ahead is recommended. To book your tee time, call (970) 887.9122.
The golf team began a little more than three years ago with a vision and a commitment from the four existing golf courses that comprise Grand Links.
Approaching the school board with the idea, these local leaders committed to raising the majority of support for the golf team each year, primarily through this fundraising event. Last year’s fundraising play day, held at Pole Creek, raised over $4,000.
The Middle Park High School Golf Team will be starting their 3rd season as of August 4th and is ably led by MPHS counselor and golf coach, Kate Walker. Coming to MPHS from Mullen High School on the Front Range, Kate coached their girls’ golf team and led them to victory in the State Tournament 5 years running. Kate is an avid golfer and believes that, “golf has many important life lessons for our young people. It’s an un-officiated sport that teaches an honor system, integrity, perseverance, positive attitude and courtesy towards your team mates.”
Hosted by Grand Lake and Pole Creek in past years, Grand Elk’s Head Golf Pro, Mike Ritter, is looking forward to hosting this year’s event. “The four Grand County golf courses are all very committed to the high school golf team. All of us make our courses available for the team for practice or play at no charge. Ultimately, it’s good for the kids and good for the game”. Plus, Mike added, “It’s a great excuse to get out there on a beautiful day and play golf.”
So, come on over to the Grand Elk Golf Course on Tuesday, June 17 and play golf for the Middle Park High School Golf Team! Remember, 100 percent of the proceeds go to the team! For more information or to book your tee time, call (970) 887.9122.
