Grand Mountain Bank sponsors annual food bank benefit

A local tradition celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

The Grand Mountain Bank Golf Tournament to benefit the four church food banks and the Mountain Family Center in Grand County will take place Thursday Aug. 7, at Grand Elk Golf Club in Granby.

The shotgun start for this scramble tournament will be at 1:30 p.m.

“Even as the economy at large shows some improvement, we see the numbers of hungry and needy in Grand County continue to rise,” said Grand Mountain Bank Chairman John Selman.

“Mountain Family Center provided food to more than 3,800 Grand County residents in 2013, a nearly 1,000-person increase over 2012,” said Mountain Family Center Director Helen Sedlar. “So far in 2014 we are on pace to meet or exceed that level of need.”

Since its inception in 2004, the tournament has raised nearly $80,000. Local food banks have received nearly $16,000 each to support their efforts to help the less fortunate in Grand County.

Bank President Frank DeLay echoed Chairman Selman’s thoughts: “As community bankers, we see firsthand every day the struggles of many in our local community to make ends meet. And, as the only community owned bank in Grand County, Grand Mountain Bank takes seriously our responsibility to help serve the social and community interests of our local citizens. This golf tournament is one of the primary ways we fulfill that responsibility.”

To register to participate, stop by any of the four Grand Mountain Bank locations in Grand County. For more information, call Grand Mountain Bank at 970-887-1221.
