The first of three learn-to-ski clinics offered by the Grand Nordic Ski Club will take place on Saturday at the Devil’s Thumb Cross Country Center near Tabernash.

Saturday’s clinic, which starts at 9 a.m., is free of charge. Participants are asked to sign up in advance by calling the Devil’s Thumb ski shop at 726-8231.

“The instruction is free of charge and kids are welcome,” said Tim Carter, Nordic Nordic’s vice president. “This is a perfect opportunity for people to get started in the sport of cross-country skiing. It’s a great alternative to alpine skiing and it’s also great exercise.”

Grand Nordic is planning two more learn-to-ski clinics this winter. The next one will be at the Grand Lake Touring Center on Saturday, Dec. 20, starting at 10 a.m. The third clinic is slated for Jan. 30 at Snow Mountain Ranch’s Nordic Center.
