Grand Nordic sponsors Grand County Nordic programs for children
The YMCA program offers free ski instruction for beginners and more accomplished skiers ages 5-15. Equipment and trail passes are provided during the lesson. Participants will compete in games and activities.
Lessons take place on Fridays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The program begins Friday, Jan. 9., and ends Friday, Feb. 20. A Nordic Ski Festival will take place Feb. 20.
The Friday program offers more progressive lessons. If equipment is needed, participants should arrive 15 minutes early to get fitted. Parents also are encouraged to help. Hot cocoa will also be offered free of charge at the end of the lesson.

Friday Fun Kid’s Cross-Country Ski Program takes place on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It starts on Friday, Jan. 9, and runs until Friday, Feb. 27.
Hot cocoa will follow in the Broken Ax Barn with a small fee.
Most of the children who participate are ages 3-6. Equipment rental, instruction and trail passes are provided by Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Participants meet outside the Broken Ax Barn on the entry to the trail system. Those who need to check out equipment will want to be at the rental counter before 10 a.m. For more information call (970) 726-8231.
Grand County Kids Ski Free on Fridays, except holidays, at Grand Lake Touring Center. The center has one more lesson left on Friday, Jan. 2. Lessons are open to children ages 5 to 12, and limited to 20 participants. To pre-register, you must call in advance, (970) 627-8008.
Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District will offer Fraser Valley Elementary students the Cross Country Cruisin’ Nordic ski program. They will ski at Morning Star Ranch.
The program is from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. The kindergarten through second graders will ski on Mondays, Jan. 5 to March 9. Third through fifth grades will ski Wednesdays, from Jan. 7 to March 11.
Children will meet outside the Fraser Valley Elementary gym. They must wear appropriate clothing to participate.
The program fee is $60, and includes transportation, equipment and instruction. For more information call FVRMD at (970) 726-8968.
Grand Nordic will offer its third free Nordic lesson Saturday, Jan. 31, at YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch. No time has been set yet.
