Gymnasts make Grand showing at state meet

Alpine Gymnastic, Grand County’s only gymnastics program, was well represented at this year’s CARA State Gymnastics Championship held at Overland High School in Aurora.

As many as girls qualified for the state competition by placing in the top six in one, two, three or all four events. Those events are vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise.



Those girls making it to the State meet were: Optional Level — Annaliese Jensen, Sierra Smith, Erin Emery, Sara Brown, Tori Lahrman, Taylor Ehlert, Sammy Phillips, Robin Peterson, Katrina Quinn and Caption and Senior Brianne Eatough.

Optional 2 Level ­— Sierra Smith took 1st place on balance beam in age group 13- 18.

Compulsory Level — Olivia Maurais, Larissa Mero, Rosie Walker, Tori Chasin and Lauren Romero.

The competition at state level is very intense with 30 teams competing from Fraser to Silverthorne and as far away as Gunnison and Durango. All the girls that competed scored their personal best for this season.

Those gymnasts scoring in the top six, in their age group and level are:

Sara Brown — 6th place floor exercise; Sammy Phillips — 5th place vault; Robin Peterson — 5th place vault; Katrina Quinn —1st place vault; Taylor Ehlert — 6th place uneven bars; Brianne Eatough — 5th place balance beam

Compulsory division 7-year-olds: Olivia Maurais — 6th place floor exercise; Rosie Walker — 3rd place floor exercise; Larissa Mero — 4th place floor exercise, 3rd place vault, 4th place uneven bars, 3rd place all-around

Boys

The boys also did very well at their State Meet, held at the Grand County Recreation Center on Friday, Aug. 2. Six boy’s teams from around the state competed. Alpine Gymnastics took home some nice shiny hardware. The Alpine Aces gymnastics team is made up of boys ranging in age from 7-12 years old. Results:

Asher Michel-7-8 year old Level 4 — 4th Place-vault; 4th place-Parallel Bars;4th Place- Still Rings; 6th Place-All Around Liam Pearce- 7-8 year olds Level 4 — 6th Place-Vault; 5th Place-Pommel horse/mushroom; Chase Peterson-7-8 year olds Level 4 — 2nd Place High Bar; 3rd Place Floor Exercise ; 3rd Place Vault; 3rd Place Still Rings; 2nd Place Pommel horse/Mushroom; 3rd Place-All Around; Corte Peterson Ages 7-18, Level 5 — 6th Place Floor Exercise; 4th Place Pommel Horse; 3rd Place Still Rings; 3rd Place Vault; Jaxson Holme — 2nd Place Floor Exercise; 2nd Place Still Rings; 6th Place Vault; 6th Place Parallel Bars; 6th Place All Around; Sam Chasin — 1st Place Floor Exercise; 2nd Place Pommel Horse; 4th Place Still Rings; 1st Place Vault; 3rd Place Parallel Bars; 3rd Place All Around’
